Facebook Business Page Data Harvesting

Every small business owner who created a Facebook business page to attract local customers also connected their personal account to a permanent commercial surveillance record.

A Facebook business page requires a personal Facebook account as its administrator. That linkage is not cosmetic. Meta uses the personal account to verify the page, process ad payments, and connect all business activity to the personal identity behind it. Every message, post, and ad purchase the small business owner makes feeds back to their personal profile.

Meta's ad system uses the personal account's activity to build a profile on the small business owner themselves. That profile includes inferred income range, household composition, political leanings, and location patterns. Meta makes that profile available to third-party advertisers. The small business owner is simultaneously a customer, a product, and an advertising target on the same platform.

The layer most small business owners miss is how Meta collects from page visitors who never interact. Meta tracks every person who views the business page, whether or not they click anything. That data is tied to the visiting account. The small business owner's page becomes the collection point. The owner neither controls it nor knows it is happening.

Deleting a Facebook business page does not remove the data Meta collected while it was active. Meta retains the full activity record under its data retention policy. The personal account that administered the page retains its own record separately. A small business owner who deletes their page and closes their personal account discovers that neither action deletes what Meta holds.
